What should I expect from my first chiropractic treatment?

In order to make a more accurate assessment about the treatment you require, your chiropractor will need as much information about you, your health and your lifestyle. A full medical case history will be taken including details of any symptoms you may have.

The Chiropractor will then outline the basis of chiropractic care and what you should expect during the treatment, including possible reactions and risks of treatment. Before any examination is carried out you will be asked to consent to chiropractic care.

Orthopaedic and Neurological Tests will be carried out and they will also assess the joints of your body to check for misalignments. This helps your chiropractor to form a diagnosis and to check that chiropractic care is safe and appropriate for your condition.

The chiropractor will then discuss their findings and, if appropriate and consent is given, the first treatment will be carried out.

After the treatment the chiropractor will discuss the outcome of the examination and treatment and give the patient a report of findings. This includes a diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan.

If your chiropractor discovers or suspects a problem which requires medical investigation or an x-ray, they will refer to your GP. Wherever possible your chiropractor will work with your GP.

You will need to see your chiropractor again within a week of your first treatment.
